How to read an SKF code
The designation of an SKF product follows rules that allow identifying its main characteristics. Below are examples with real catalog codes.
Deep groove ball bearing: 6205-2RS1/C3
The basic number 6205 indicates the series (62) and the bore diameter (05 = 25 mm). The suffix 2RS1 indicates two rubber seals, and C3 a greater than normal internal clearance.
Spherical roller bearing: 22228 CC/C3W33
The digits 222 identify the spherical roller series, and 28 the bore diameter (140 mm). CC indicates the design with stamped steel cage, C3 greater radial clearance, and W33 groove and lubrication holes in the outer ring.
Y-bearing: YAR 204-2F
YAR indicates insert with extended inner ring and set screws. 204 corresponds to 20 mm bore diameter. The suffix -2F indicates contact sealing on both sides.
Split housing: SNL 206-305
SNL identifies the split housing. The number that follows indicates the bearing and shaft diameter for which it is dimensioned; verify the complete designation before ordering.
Timing belt: PHG T5-200-8
PHG is the belt line. T5 is the profile and pitch (5 mm). 200 is the pitch length in mm, and 8 the width in mm.
Radial oil seal: 1850
The numeric code identifies the construction type and dimensions. Always verify against the catalog or the original part.
