Bushings, sleeves and lock nuts

A tapered bore bearing is not mounted directly on the shaft: it goes on a sleeve, and that sleeve is what tightens against the plain shaft. This is what allows using a shaft without machined seats and what makes it possible to dismount without destroying anything.

The adapter sleeves —series H, HE, HA and HS— are the standard version: tapered on the outside, cylindrical on the inside, they are tightened with the nut and lock the bearing at any point on the shaft. The withdrawal sleeves, series AH and AHX, do the opposite: they are used when the bearing goes against a shaft shoulder and has to be removed from the outside. The hydraulic sleeves, OH and AOH, have an internal groove to inject oil under pressure: in large diameters it is the only reasonable way to mount and dismount without heating the part.

The KM lock nuts and MB lock washers complete the assembly. The washer is what prevents the nut from loosening on its own with vibration, and it is the part most often omitted in rushed mountings.

There are also friction bushings: plain bushings for points where a bearing does not fit due to space, or where the speed is so low that it is not justified. They work by lubricant film and not by rolling.
