An industrial brake stops, decelerates or holds a load stationary by converting energy into heat through friction. The most common in machinery are disc brakes: a caliper with pads presses a disc mounted on the shaft. Depending on the actuation, there are brakes that are applied by spring and released with hydraulic, pneumatic or electromagnetic pressure, the so-called safety brakes, because they brake if power fails, and others that are applied with pressure and released by spring. They are used on conveyor belts, cranes, wind turbines, paper machines and rolling mills.
