In SAF 217 and SAF 220, the letters name the housing series and the digits refer to the size of the bearing it takes, not to the shaft diameter. That is why the same body can be assembled for different shafts depending on the sleeve and seals fitted. When the designation adds a hyphen and another number, it describes a particular assembly and must be copied.
FSAF 218 and SAFS 520 are variants within the same family: one letter changes and the housing changes, even when the bearing size matches. The housing code does not include the bearing, the sleeve or the seals either, each of which has its own designation. Rebuilding an assembly requires all of them.
Measure the base: length, width, spacing of the anchor holes and number of bolts. There are two-bolt and four-bolt housings for the same size, and a new base that does not match means drilling the structure. The height of the shaft centre above the base is the other dimension that cannot change without affecting the alignment of the machine.
Also look at how the bearing works inside the housing. On a shaft line, one support is assembled as locating and the others as non-locating, which is settled by fitting or omitting the locating rings. If you do not find those rings when dismantling, write it down: nothing is missing, it is the non-locating position.
Send us the designation cast on the base and that of the cap if it differs, the quantity and whether you need the housing alone or the assembly with bearing, sleeve and seals. Add the shaft diameter, in inches or millimetres, the base dimensions and the centre height. State whether the support is locating or non-locating and whether the shaft passes through or ends inside the housing, because the end cover depends on it.
