SKF housings include bodies and mounted units that should be distinguished before requesting a replacement. This category contains SNL, SAF, SNH and SONL split plummer block housings, FNL housings, Y units with bearing inserts and accessories. A series name locates the line but does not describe every component installed inside or around the body.
For a split housing, record the housing marking and bearing marking separately. Identify any sleeve, nut, covers or sealing elements as additional positions. For units with inserts, specifying whether the request concerns the unit or only the bearing avoids confusing two different items. Photographs of the base and shaft passage complement the code when the marking is incomplete.
Before comparing another reference, collect the shaft diameter, mounting dimensions and an assembly sketch. Specify the equipment end and application. Identify each accessory by its marking or point it out in an assembly photograph. Similar-looking housings do not necessarily share every component.
