A coupling is the component that connects two shafts and transmits torque while absorbing misalignments, vibrations, and shocks. It is selected based on the type of connection, shaft diameter and length, torque to be transmitted, and allowable misalignment. SKF's PHE line groups jaw, flange, and articulated couplings. The endings indicate the construction: FTBFLG corresponds to split flange, L to jaw couplings, TGFS to jaw with flange, RSB to jaw with spacer, UJMA to universal joint, and SM to jaw with spacer. The X series appears as a normal hub or solid hub coupling, a simple construction for rigid or semi-flexible connections.
