SKF hydraulic nuts: HMV and HMVC series

The SKF hydraulic nut is a tool, not a nut that stays mounted. It is screwed onto the shaft or the sleeve, connected to a pump, and its annular piston drives the bearing up the tapered seat with a force a spanner cannot give. It is used for mounting and, with a withdrawal sleeve, for dismounting too. In the catalog, the same line includes the nuts and their sealing spares.

Nut, thread series and seal kit

In HMV 10E, HMV is the metric thread series and the number is the size, which matches that of the lock nuts with the same number. HMVC 18E belongs to the series with an inch thread. The letter E is part of the current designation of these nuts and is copied.

References ending in a slash and a long number, such as HMV 10/233983, are not nuts: they are the spare seal kit for the piston of that size. It is the most common mistake in this line, because the start of the code is the same. If the nut is leaking, order the kit; if you need the tool, order the designation with E.

What it needs to work

The nut does nothing on its own: it needs a pump, a hose and a pressure gauge, and in the most precise method a dial indicator to measure how far the bearing advances. The thread must match that of the shaft or the sleeve. When it does not, adapters are used, which are identified separately.

The piston has a limited stroke. If the bearing needs to travel further than the nut allows, the nut is backed off and screwed on again. After use, the piston is returned to its position and the connection is plugged: most leaks come from seals damaged by dirt or by storing the nut with the piston out.

Details for a quote

Send us the complete designation and tell us whether you need the nut or the seal kit. If you are choosing the tool, give us the thread of the shaft or the sleeve, in millimetres or inches, and the designations of the smallest and largest bearings you will mount. Tell us whether you already have a pump and its pressure, so the connection can be confirmed.

Are HMV 10E and HMV 10/233983 the same?

No. The first is the hydraulic nut; the second is its spare seal kit.

Does a hydraulic nut stay on the shaft?

No. It is a tool: it is removed and the final lock nut is fitted.

Are HMV and HMVC interchangeable?

They have different threads, metric and inch. Choose according to the shaft or the sleeve.

Main series

SKF HMV …E Hydraulic Nut

The SKF HMV …E series hydraulic nut is a mounting and dismounting device that threads onto the shaft or adapter sleeve and generates oil pressure to expand the fitted part. It is used when the interference fit is too large to mount by impact or with a press, and allows work with control and without damaging the seat surfaces. MR Accesorios Industriales carries it as part of its mounting line.

SKF HMVC …E Series Hydraulic Nut

The SKF HMVC …E series hydraulic nut is a precision tool used to mount and dismount bearings, sleeves and other components with a press fit on shafts or in housings. Its hydraulic design allows a controlled and uniform axial force to be applied, preventing damage to the parts and making work easier in tight spaces. It is a reliable solution for maintenance workshops and industrial plants that require fast and safe interventions.
