CARB toroidal roller bearings

CARB bearings are radial toroidal roller bearings. They combine two capabilities that are usually separate: they compensate angular misalignment between shaft and housing and, in addition, allow axial displacement within the bearing itself, without additional forces on the assembly. That is why they are used as the non-locating bearing, on the side of the shaft that expands, in long shafts and in supports where alignment is not perfect.

The designation is read in parts. In C 2206 TN9 the letter C identifies the CARB series; the digits 22 are the dimension series and 06 the size code, which multiplied by 5 gives a 30 mm bore. The suffix TN9 indicates a polyamide cage, C3, as in C 2206 TN9/C3, a radial internal clearance greater than normal, and V, as in C 2206 V, a full complement design without cage. An example of a larger size is C 2208 TN9.

They are applied in paper and pulp machines, industrial fans, conveyor belts, gearboxes, mills and transmissions where a deep groove ball bearing would not tolerate misalignment and a spherical roller bearing would not compensate axial expansion. To choose, you must define the position as non-locating bearing, the radial internal clearance according to the fit and temperature, and verify the minimum radial load to prevent the rollers from skidding.
