Hydraulic nut

The hydraulic nut is a mounting and dismounting component designed for large bearings, where traditional mechanical methods are insufficient or risky. It is selected according to the bearing or shaft you are going to work on: you need to define the thread diameter and pitch, the mounting type and the space available for the oil pump connection. Axial force is applied with pressurized oil, in a controlled way, to avoid damaging the bearing or the shaft.

The references you will find here are from SKF's HMV series, with examples such as HMV 36/233983, HMVC 22E and HMVA 42/200. The initials HMV identify the hydraulic nut line; the HMVC variant corresponds to a version with construction features specific to that family, and HMVA to another variant within the same series. Regardless of nomenclature, all perform the same function: generating a uniform and progressive axial thrust on the bearing.

These nuts are used in mounting arrangements where fit is critical and access is difficult: rolling mill stands, mills, presses, large gearboxes, turbines, and mining or cement equipment. Also in any assembly where a large-diameter bearing must be installed or removed without impacts or localized heating. By applying oil pressure evenly, the risk of marking raceways or deforming the ring is reduced.
