A taper bushing is a ring with a tapered outside that fits into the tapered hub of a pulley, sprocket, gear or coupling. When the screws are tightened, it closes onto the shaft and holds the hub with a firm, centered fit, and it can be removed without damaging the shaft. It is selected by the hub system, bushing size and shaft diameter.

Each system has its own taper, so a bushing is not interchangeable with one from another system. In DODGE, TAPER-LOCK and QD are split bushing systems and Split taper names that type of bushing; S16-4 and S20-6 are bushing part numbers that are ordered complete. In SKF, the size at the end indicates the bore diameter in inches: PHF E-1, PHF E-1-1/2 and PHF E-1-15/16 are for 1, 1-1/2 and 1-15/16 inches.

They are found in gearboxes, pumps, fans, conveyors and power transmission equipment. During installation, it is advisable to clean the tapered surfaces, tighten the screws evenly and respect the indicated torque to avoid loosening and hub deformation.

We work with DODGE and SKF taper bushings.
