Slewing rings

A slewing ring is a large-diameter bearing that joins two structures and allows one to rotate relative to the other, while simultaneously supporting axial load, radial load and tilting moment. It can have external or internal gear teeth, cut into one of its rings, so that a pinion drives it, or no gear teeth. It is used in cranes, excavators, aerial platforms, turntables, antennas and mining and construction machinery.

TECMA DRIVE codes combine a letter and numeric blocks separated by periods, such as E.1000.25.00.B, E.1050.20.00.C and E.1080.2.22.00.D.6. Each block identifies a characteristic of the slewing ring and the final letters the execution, so the code must be requested complete: two slewing rings that differ only in a suffix are not interchangeable.

When selecting, start with the loads: axial, radial and tilting moment, both in normal operation and with maximum load. This defines the construction type and diameter. Then choose the gear type (external, internal or no gear), rotation accuracy, clearance and mounting: the slewing ring must rest on flat, rigid surfaces and is bolted with high-strength bolts, with the specified tightening torque. Lubrication and sealing depend on the working environment.
