SKF SNW sleeves are adapter assemblies for inch shafts: the tapered sleeve, the lock nut and the lock washer that mount a tapered bore bearing on a plain shaft. They do the same job as the metric H series adapter sleeves, with threads and dimensions of the inch system. They are the ones that apply on machines of North American origin and in SAF series housings.

SNW 10X1.11/16 combines the size and the shaft. The number after the letters refers to the bearing it takes, and after the X comes the shaft diameter, with the whole number and the fraction separated by a point. So SNW 13X2.3/16 and SNW 15X2.7/16 are two different sizes, each for its own shaft.
For the same bearing size there are sleeves for more than one shaft, so the number alone is not enough. And the shaft is written in fractions, not decimals: copy the designation as it appears, with the point and the slash. If the removed sleeve carries extra letters, they are part of the reference too.
With this sleeve everything depends on the actual shaft diameter. An inch shaft worn by a few thousandths no longer lets the sleeve seat properly, and a similar metric shaft is no substitute: the difference between nearby sizes of the two systems is greater than the sleeve can absorb. Measure with a micrometer, at several points.
Mounting is the same as for any adapter sleeve: the nut drives the bearing up the taper until the fit is reached, which is controlled by the clearance reduction or by the tightening angle. The nut and washer of the assembly have inch threads; if they are replaced separately, they must be ordered from the matching series.
