SKF OH hydraulic adapter sleeves: series and codes

SKF OH sleeves are adapter sleeves for large bearings, prepared for the oil injection method. They have ducts and grooves through which oil is pumped under pressure between the sleeve and the bearing bore. That film separates the surfaces and makes it possible to mount and dismount parts that, because of their size, would not move with a spanner. They are used in mills, large fans, paper machines and heavy equipment.

The OH designation

In OH 2344 H and OH 3044 H, the initial letters name the series with oil ducts and the digits refer to the bearing it carries: dimension series and size. They are not the shaft diameter. The final H distinguishes the execution of the nut and its locking, and there is more than one: OH 3144 HTL is another variant for the same bore size.

As with small sleeves, the assembly includes the sleeve, the nut and the locking element. What changes is the scale and the way of working. Copy the whole designation: two sleeves for the same bearing can differ in the final letters and not be interchangeable in the thread.

Equipment and procedure

Using the ducts requires an oil injection pump with its gauge and connections, and normally a hydraulic nut that drives the bearing while the oil separates the surfaces. The connection threads of the sleeve must match those of the equipment, or adapters are used.

The fit is controlled by measuring how far the bearing advances on the taper or how much its internal clearance is reduced, not by the pump pressure. When finished, the pressure is released and the oil is left to drain before removing the hydraulic nut and fitting the final locking. To dismount, oil is injected and the bearing comes loose; a stop must be provided so it does not shoot off.

Details for a quote

Send us the complete designation and the quantity. Add the bearing designation, the actual shaft diameter and the housing it is mounted in. Tell us which injection equipment you have and with which connection threads, and whether you also need the hydraulic nut. For replacements, a photo of the end of the sleeve where the connections are helps confirm the variant.

Can it be mounted without an oil pump?

At these sizes it is not advisable. The sleeve is made for the injection method.

Are OH and H the same?

They do the same job. OH adds the oil ducts and applies to large sizes.

Do the digits indicate the shaft?

No. They refer to the bearing; the shaft is confirmed by measuring.

SKF OH HTL Hydraulic Sleeve

The SKF hydraulic sleeve of the OH HTL series is a mounting tool designed to facilitate the installation and removal of bearings with a tapered bore. It works by means of injected oil pressure, which reduces effort and prevents damage to the bearing and the shaft. It is a practical solution for industrial maintenance workshops that need precision and care in every intervention.
