SKF SNL split plummer block housings: codes

In SNL 205, the initial letters identify the housing line. The code SNL 206-305 contains a hyphenated numeric block that must be retained in full. The catalog also lists SNL 515-612 and SNL 516-613: these are housing references, rather than codes for the bearings installed inside them.

Copy the marking on the body and compare it with the parts drawing. Do not turn the numbers separated by a hyphen into a shaft measurement or treat them as a list of included components. Reconstructing an existing assembly requires matching that housing to the bearing and accessories actually installed. A photograph of the cap can help the search, but cannot identify every internal component.

The MR SKF guide mentions SNL housings in cement plants alongside bearings and mounting sleeves. For a shaft support of this kind, record the complete body, its mounting base and the shaft passage. The housing’s position within the machine provides context that a request for a loose housing would omit.

When renewing an assembly, distinguish the part being replaced: housing, bearing or accessories. Listing these positions separately avoids requesting parts outside the repair scope and allows each designation to be checked against the drawing. Describing the housing as split is also insufficient, because other catalog lines share this characteristic.

Send the SNL designation, quantity and photographs of the marking, base and installed assembly. State the measured shaft diameter, bearing reference and sleeve reference where present. For covers or seals, include their codes or photographs and specify the relevant end of the housing. Add mounting dimensions and the machine application, keeping readings from the physical part separate from information taken from a drawing.
