SKF housing covers and accessories: TSN, FRB, ASNH

An SKF split plummer block housing is supplied as base and cap. Everything else is chosen separately according to the shaft and the environment: the seals that close the shaft opening, the rings that locate the bearing and the end cover that closes the housing when the shaft ends inside it. This line gathers those parts. They are small and cheap compared with the assembly, but a housing fitted with the wrong seal loses grease from the first day.

Three families of accessories

Seals carry the TSN prefix, the housing size and a final letter that distinguishes the type of seal: TSN 206 A, TSN 208 S and TSN 205 G are three different sealing systems. The number must match the housing and the diameter of the shaft that passes through; the letter is chosen by speed, dirt and temperature.

FRB 3.5/52 is a locating ring: the first number is the ring width and the second its outside diameter, which matches that of the bearing. They are placed at the sides of the bearing in the locating support. ASNH 506-605 is the end cover that closes the housing of that size when the shaft does not pass through.

What each position takes

A through shaft needs two seals, one per side. A shaft that ends inside the housing takes one seal and one end cover. Locating rings go in the locating support of the shaft line, usually two; they are not fitted in the non-locating support, so the bearing can move.

The number and width of the rings depend on the bearing mounted in that housing, because the same body takes bearings of different widths. That is why it is better to order the accessories together with the bearing and the sleeve, not separately at another time.

Details for quoting the accessories

Send us the designation of the housing, that of the bearing and the shaft diameter. Tell us whether the shaft passes through or ends inside, whether the support is locating or non-locating and what is in the environment: dust, water, temperature. That defines the seals, the rings and the cover. If you already have the codes of the parts, send them with the quantity of each.

Do the seals come with the housing?

No. They are ordered separately, according to shaft and environment, under their own TSN designation.

How many FRB rings does a housing take?

It depends on the bearing. They go only in the locating support; confirm number and width with the bearing designation.

When is the ASNH cover needed?

When the shaft ends inside the housing. It replaces the seal on that side.
