Thrust Ball Bearing

A thrust ball bearing is designed to support predominantly axial loads in one direction. It consists of a shaft washer, a housing washer, and a cage with balls. It is selected based on the shaft and housing diameter, the magnitude and direction of the axial load, the rotation speed, and the available space. When the load is combined or very high, it is advisable to consider other bearing families.

MR's catalog includes 264 SKF references. Some designations correspond to classic numerical series, such as 52658, which identifies a thrust ball bearing assembly from a standard series. Others correspond to special designs: U 210 is a thrust bearing with a spherical washer and spherical seat, which compensates for minor misalignments; BA 4 is a precision thrust ball bearing for high-accuracy applications; BTW 50 CTN9/SP and BTM 100 ATN9/P4CDBA are high-precision thrust ball bearings with a synthetic material cage and reduced tolerances, used in machine tool spindles and lathe chucks.

Typical applications include machine tool spindles, lathe chucks, rotary tables, milling machine columns, vertical pumps, gearboxes, and equipment where the main load is axial and rigidity is required. They are also used in assemblies where preload must be adjusted to eliminate play.
