The TSUBAKI RS-TI series roller chain is an ANSI chain manufactured to work in corrosive environments. It is used in drives where humidity, frequent washdowns or aggressive vapors shorten the life of a conventional chain. The series designation combines the pitch and the anti-corrosion treatment. In the examples, RS35-TI and RS40-TI, the letters RS identify the ANSI pitch roller chain, the number that follows indicates the pitch size and the TI suffix indicates the version for corrosive environments. That suffix is what differentiates this chain from a standard chain of the same line: it does not change the pitch or the roller type, it changes the corrosion resistance.

These chains are chosen in food and beverage plants, industrial washdown areas, water treatment plants, chemical industry, tanneries and any process with permanent humidity or washdowns with detergents. In Argentina they also appear in refrigeration equipment, wash tunnels and transport of parts that come out wet. In those environments, a common chain rusts and elongates within a few weeks; the corrosion version maintains the pitch for longer.

To select correctly, start from the pitch of the original chain and the number of teeth on the sprockets. Check that the sprockets are in good condition: a new chain on worn sprockets wears out sooner. Check shaft alignment and tension; in roller chains, excessive tension punishes bearings and bushings. Lubrication also matters: in corrosive environments a lubrication compatible with humidity is advisable and the sealing of the equipment should be reviewed.

Regarding equivalences, the RS-TI series responds to the ANSI pitch nomenclature, so a chain from another brand with the same pitch and type can replace it, provided the corrosion resistance is equivalent. It is not enough for the pitch number to match: the surface treatment and material must be compared.
