SKF NU series cylindrical roller bearings are separable bearings with a flangeless inner ring, designed to withstand high radial loads and allow axial displacement of the shaft within the housing. They are used in equipment where thermal expansion or longitudinal misalignment must be absorbed without loading the bearing. The designation is read in parts. NU indicates that the inner ring has no flanges and the outer ring does, so the bearing only guides axially in one direction and allows displacement in the other. The number that follows, for example in NU 209 ECP/CNLDR or NU 2308 ECP/CNLDR, identifies the dimension series: 2 for the light series, 3 for the medium series and 23 for the wide series. The suffixes ECP refer to the optimized design with polyamide cage and CNLDR to the retaining ring groove on the outer ring with reduced radial clearance.

Regarding interchangeability, cylindrical roller bearings of standardized dimension series correspond between manufacturers by their basic designation: a NU 209 from one brand matches the same bore, outer diameter and width as one from another. Internal suffixes, however, are not equivalent between brands and may change cage, clearance or design. Before replacing, compare the complete designation and not just the series number.
