What the gas industry uses
The gas industry spans fields, treatment plants, compression stations and pipelines. At every one of those points there is rotating equipment that cannot stop: reciprocating and centrifugal compressors, air coolers, process pumps, electric motors and fans. They work outdoors, with wind, dust and wide temperature swings between day and night, in continuous duty. That is why each component is chosen for its load, speed, temperature and access for maintenance.
Electric motors and pumps use deep groove ball bearings and cylindrical roller bearings; where axial loads appear, as in centrifugal pumps and compressors, angular contact bearings come in. Selection starts from the operating point, not just the size. On air coolers it pays to check pulleys, belts and housings together, because incorrect belt tension shortens bearing life. On compressors and pumps, speed, service temperature and lubricant quality carry the most weight. At remote sites, planning replacements and having the exact part number of each component avoids trips and unplanned stops.
