SKF friction bushings: PCM and PWM series

SKF friction bushings are plain bearings: bushings that work by sliding, without rolling elements. They take up very little radial space and solve joints, pivots and guides with oscillating or slow movement, high loads and little or no lubrication. The catalog includes cylindrical bushings, flanged bushings and thrust washers, in more than one material.

Shape, dimensions and material

In PCM 050705 E, the letters name the cylindrical bushing and the six digits combine, in pairs, the bore, the outside diameter and the length in millimetres. PCMF 060804 E adds an F: it is the flanged bushing. PCMW 122401.5 E is a thrust washer, and its digits are the bore, the outside diameter and the thickness.

The final letter distinguishes the material of the sliding layer: PCM 081012 M and a PCM ending in E have the same shape and are not equivalent. PWM 202415 belongs to another family of bushings, with a thicker wall, and the same three dimensions in its six digits. In every case, the letters are copied together with the numbers.

Shaft and housing do the rest

A thin-walled bushing takes its final shape when pressed into the housing. That is why the housing bore and the shaft must be within the tolerance stated by the manufacturer: the operating clearance results from them. The shaft surface counts too; a rough shaft wears the sliding layer in a short time.

These bushings cope well with high loads at low speed and reciprocating movements, where a rolling bearing would be marked. They are not for continuous rotation at high speed. And not all materials are lubricated the same way: some run dry and others need initial grease or relubrication, so it is advisable to keep the one from the original design.

Details for quoting a bushing

Send us the complete designation and the quantity. Without a code, measure the shaft diameter, the housing diameter and the length of the bushing, and state whether it has a flange. Tell us the type of movement, the approximate load, whether the point is greased and its temperature. A photo of the removed bushing shows the material of the inner layer.

Are PCM with E and with M the same?

They have the same shape and a different sliding material. Keep the one on the equipment.

Does it replace a bronze bushing?

It can, if the dimensions match and the application allows it. Review load, speed and lubrication.

Is it fitted with blows?

It is pressed in with a mandrel that bears evenly, without striking the edge.

Main series

SKF PTB Friction Bushings

SKF PTB series friction bushings are cylindrical components mounted between a shaft and a housing to reduce friction and wear. They work as self-lubricating or lubricated bushings, supporting radial loads in rotating or oscillating movements. They are used in industrial and automotive machinery and equipment where a compact, low-maintenance solution is required. MR Accesorios Industriales sells this line as part of its range of power transmission and support components.

SKF PCM E Plain Bearings

SKF plain bearings of the PCM E series are thin-walled bushings with a sliding coating, designed to withstand radial loads in oscillating or limited-rotation movements. They are used in joints, pivots and guides where low friction and minimal maintenance are required. MR Accesorios Industriales sells this line as part of its range of components for power transmission and motion.

SKF PCM M plain bearings

SKF PCM M series plain bearings are thin-walled self-lubricating bushings that combine a steel backing with a sintered bronze layer and a PTFE and lead mixture. They are used to support radial loads in oscillating, rotating or sliding movements, where continuous lubricant supply is not possible or not advisable. Their compact design allows them to be mounted in confined spaces and to replace solid bushings with lower load capacity.
