SKF taper bushings: PHF series, sizes and bores

In PHF TB1008X9MM, TB identifies the system, 1008 is the bushing size and what follows the X is the bore for the shaft: 9 millimetres. PHF TB1008X0.5 is the same bushing with an inch bore. The size is set by the pulley or sprocket; the bore, by the shaft. They are two independent details and both are needed.

PHF F-1-1/2 belongs to another system of flanged taper bushings, in which a letter names the size and the rest gives the bore in inches. PHF FX10-20X47 is a keyless locking element, identified by the shaft diameter and the hub bore. A part prepared for one system does not take the bushing of another.

The bushing is tightened with its screws, gradually and alternately, to the stated torque. The tapered surfaces are fitted clean and free of grease, because the grip depends on friction. It is not hammered to seat it: blows break the flange or crack the hub of the part.

To remove it, the same screws are used in the jacking holes, which push the bushing out of the taper. If the part has turned on the shaft, check the key and the shaft before fitting a new bushing: a worn shaft does not let the bushing close evenly.
