Thrust ball bearings SKF: codes and mounting

The SKF thrust ball bearing line covers references for positions where thrust acts along the shaft. This construction comprises a shaft washer, a housing washer and a ball and cage assembly. Identification requires examining the complete stack: a loose washer does not describe the entire part. Within the brand, this line is separate from deep groove ball bearings and thrust bearings with rollers.

Series with dimension tables

Separate the basic number from additional groups

The catalogue contains 51100, 51101 and 51102. The beginning 511 identifies a shared series, while the complete number distinguishes each reference. Do not convert these numbers into assumed measurements: compare them against the diameters and overall height of the assembly removed from the machine.

The designation 51130 M adds a letter group after the numeric base. Keep that group in the enquiry instead of shortening the request to 51130 or assuming it has the same execution as a similar-looking part. If the washers separated during removal, collect their markings and show them in one photograph to avoid mixing components from different bearing positions.

Describe where the thrust acts

Lifting mechanisms, rotary tables and certain spindles are among the documented applications of this construction. The useful identification detail is its position in the mechanism: show which surface seats on the shaft and which is associated with the housing. Include an overall view that reveals the order of the parts.

A nearby radial bearing can serve another purpose. Do not confuse it with the thrust bearing because both surround the same shaft. Where a mounting arrangement has thrust in different directions, send the complete exploded drawing; the generic name thrust ball bearing does not determine the support arrangement.

Specify the assembly required for the quote

Record the code, quantity, bore, outside diameter and overall height, explaining how the height was measured. Add photographs of both washers and the cage while keeping the relationship between the parts clear. Identify the machine and the point where the bearing was installed. If you require only one component, state this explicitly: identifying the assembly does not establish that its elements can be ordered separately.

Is one washer enough to identify the thrust bearing?

It can provide a marking or measurement, but the other components or the complete assembly reference are still needed.

Can a deep groove ball bearing replace it?

The mounting arrangement and bearing function need examination. One matching diameter does not determine a replacement.

Why report the assembly height?

It allows comparison of the space occupied in the mounting. State whether you measured the assembled bearing or an individual part.
