SKF tapered roller bearings: series and codes

SKF tapered roller bearings are identified by considering both the reference and the bearing arrangement. The brand guide describes this construction for combined forces and notes that it commonly works in pairs. The catalog also contains cylindrical and spherical roller bearings; the use of rollers in all three lines does not make them direct alternatives in the same housing. The original assembly configuration is part of the request.

Numbers, slashes and execution blocks

The reference 30202 identifies a numeric designation in the 302 series. In 32008 X/VA983, the number belongs to another series and is accompanied by an additional block that must remain when copied. The catalog retains both complete references; searching by tapered roller bearing and diameter does not replace that identification.

The codes 687/672 and 938/932 contain two groups separated by a slash. Transcribe both groups together as shown and also record the markings on the removed part’s components. Do not construct a new combination from the first part of one reference and the second part of another. When an assembly is separated into pieces, keeping photographs and markings associated helps prevent mixing components from different bearing positions in the request.

MR's catalog lists 927 SKF tapered roller bearing pages; the most numerous series are 320, 322, 313 and 302 (32208 belongs to 322). Inch references carry prefixes such as LM, L or HM.

Position and arrangement of the pair

The MR SKF guide associates roller bearings with gearboxes and transmission equipment. For a tapered bearing position in a gearbox, specify the shaft and its location in the parts drawing. If another bearing completes the arrangement, record that reference and orientation before separating the components.

The bearing position’s behavior depends on the assembly arrangement, beyond its outside dimensions. A request to reproduce the original mounting should therefore be distinguished from a proposed modification. A sketch showing the order of the parts can provide more information than several photographs that do not identify each component’s position.

Information to send with the code

Share the readable designation, quantity, application and photographs of the marked faces. Measure bore diameter, outside diameter and width, stating which part each measurement describes if the bearing is separated. Add the parts drawing or a shaft view when asking about a pair. Retain original markings even if the equipment has been repaired before: the code on a stored box and the marking on the installed part should be compared, rather than assumed identical.

Can a reference containing a slash be shortened?

Retain both groups. The slash is part of the designation used to identify that reference in the catalog.

Do all bearings in a pair have the same code?

Do not assume so. Record each position’s parts and the assembly order before preparing the request.

Are matching diameters enough?

Identification also requires width, the complete designation and the mounting arrangement. Compare these details before selecting the replacement.

Main series

SKF Tapered Roller Bearings

The tapered roller bearing has rolling elements and raceways shaped like a truncated cone, which allows it to support radial and axial load at the same time in a single direction. By design, it is always mounted in pairs facing each other or against another bearing, never alone, because a single tapered roller does not support the shaft without opposing thrust.

SKF 302 Series Tapered Roller Bearings

SKF tapered roller bearings are components designed to support combined radial and axial loads in a single direction. Their tapered raceway and roller design allows linear contact that distributes loads better. They are used in applications requiring high load capacity and rigidity, such as gearboxes, wheel axles and industrial machinery. At MR Accesorios Industriales we sell this line with the VA suffix, which identifies a special execution. Ask by WhatsApp to receive advice and a quote.
