They have the same main dimensions as the ordinary steel bearing with the same number, so they fit the same seat. What changes is the material, and with it the corrosion resistance and the load capacity. They have their own page because they are chosen by environment, not by size.

In W 608 the W indicates stainless steel and 608 is the basic number, read just as in an ordinary deep groove ball bearing. W 608-2Z and W 608-2RS1 are that same base with a block after the hyphen: they are three different references, and the right one is the one that was fitted. In small sizes a slash appears inside the number, as in W 618/5, and it is part of the base.
After the final slash there may be blocks such as the one in W 6002-2RS1/VT378. They identify a particular execution of the same bearing. Do not drop them when copying: two bearings with the same base and a different final block are not the same reference in the catalog.
Stainless is justified where the bearing gets wet, is washed down or works with moisture and cleaning products: food lines, laboratory equipment, small pumps, machines outdoors. It resists corrosion better than bearing steel, but it is not immune to every chemical, and it helps to say what it is in contact with.
For the same size, a stainless bearing carries less load than an ordinary steel one. If it replaces a standard bearing to gain corrosion resistance, check that the load at that point allows it. The opposite route also has a cost: an ordinary bearing at a point that is washed down rusts even when it is sealed.
Send us the complete designation, with the W and the final blocks, and the quantity. If you only have the dimensions, give us bore, outside diameter and width, and tell us whether it was open or capped. State which equipment it works on, what it is washed with or what wets it, the temperature and the approximate speed. If the original bearing was not stainless and you want to change, say so, so the load can be reviewed.
