Bearing housing covers and accessories

Bearing housing covers and accessories are the parts that complete the bearing housing: they close the end, protect against the ingress of dust, water and processed material, and position the bearing within the housing. Retaining rings, for example, allow fixing it axially or leaving it free to absorb thermal expansion. They are not universal parts: each series responds to the geometry of a specific housing.

This subcategory includes codes such as ECB 504, ECB 505, ECL 204 and ECL 205 from SKF, and SR160X12.5, SR180X12 or SR200X17.5 from Timken. In the former, the acronym identifies the type of part and the number corresponds to the housing it is intended for; in the SR ones, the figures separated by X are dimensions in millimeters. The reference must match the housing already mounted or the one to be installed, which is why the complete code is quoted.

To choose, define the type and size of the housing, the shaft diameter, the axial position required by the mounting, and the environmental conditions. Typical applications are conveyors, elevators, mills, mixers, pumps and industrial fans, where the cover prevents the bearing from moving and dirt from entering the housing.
