Sealing washers are axial sealing elements mounted on a shaft or inside a housing to retain lubricant and block the ingress of contaminants. Unlike a radial shaft seal, which seals against the shaft by interference on its inner diameter, the washer works resting on a front face: that is why it is chosen when axial space is limited and there is no room for a conventional oil seal cavity. To select it, the shaft or housing diameter, available width, type of lubricant, and the temperature and speed conditions of the assembly must be defined.
