DBH seals are identified with codes that follow international standards. Although at first glance they seem like just numbers, each part of the code has a meaning. If you interpret the designation correctly, you can order the exact replacement without errors.

Most radial seals use a numeric designation that indicates inner diameter, outer diameter, and width, in millimeters. For example, a code like 1289 does not follow that pattern, because DBH uses its own numbering system for its products.

In general, standard seals are designated with three figures separated by hyphens or spaces, such as 20-47-7. That means 20 mm inner diameter, 47 mm outer diameter, and 7 mm width. Some manufacturers use only consecutive numbers, as in the case of DBH.

In addition to the base number, there may be prefixes or suffixes that indicate material, lip type, or presence of a spring. For example, the letter 'V' usually refers to viton seals, and 'NBR' to nitrile. In DBH codes, these details may be implicit in the series.

Prefixes usually indicate the type of seal or its construction. For example, 'TC' is used for seals with a main lip and a secondary dust lip, 'SC' for a single lip, and 'TB' for a reinforced lip. In the case of DBH, the numeric designation may not include these letters, but the design follows similar standards.

The most frequent suffixes are those that indicate material: 'NBR' for nitrile, 'FKM' or 'VITON' for fluoroelastomer, 'MVQ' for silicone. They can also indicate the presence of a spring ('G' if it has one, 'B' if not). In DBH codes, these suffixes may appear after the number, for example 5069 NBR.

It is important not to confuse the seal code with the bearing code. Although both use numbers, the dimensions and tolerances are different. Always check the manufacturer's catalog or consult us with the complete code.
