In the food industry, Rexnord housings and bearings are used in conveyors, mixers and washers, where hygiene and resistance to frequent washing are important. Stainless steel housings or those with special coatings help prevent corrosion.

In mining and aggregates, spherical roller bearings and large housings withstand heavy loads and misalignments in conveyor belts, screens and mills. The self-aligning capability of spherical roller bearings is essential in these equipment subjected to impacts and vibrations.

Correct selection begins by defining the radial and axial load, rotation speed and environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, dust). With that data, you can choose the bearing type: deep groove ball, spherical roller or Y insert, and the corresponding housing.

Rexnord housings are identified with codes such as ZA6107 or ZB2308, which indicate the series and size of the bearing they house. For example, a ZA6206 housing is prepared for a bearing of the 62 series with a 30 mm bore. It is important to verify compatibility between housing and bearing.

For applications with misalignment or shaft deflection, spherical roller bearings such as 2315U or 9200U are a good option. If quick mounting and protection against contaminants are needed, Y-housings with insert bearings, such as P4B-203-T, simplify installation.

Correct mounting is key to bearing service life. Before installing, clean the shaft and housing, and verify tolerances. Use appropriate tools: never strike the bearing directly; use a tube that supports only the ring being mounted.

In split housings, such as those of the ZA series, ensure that the halves are well aligned and that the screws are tightened to the recommended torque. Initial lubrication must be adequate: good quality grease and in the correct amount, avoiding excess that generates heating.

Y-bearings with pillow block housings, such as P2B-208-T, are usually fixed to the shaft with set screws or eccentric locking collar. It is essential that the screw is firm to prevent slipping, but without damaging the thread. After mounting, turn the shaft manually to check smoothness.

Preventive maintenance includes periodic relubrication, temperature and vibration monitoring, and seal inspection. Greasing frequency depends on speed, load and environment: in severe conditions, it may be necessary to grease every few weeks; in clean environments, every several months.

Friction bushings, such as 701-66008-040, require a different lubrication plan: they usually work with grease or oil, and wear is controlled by measuring radial clearance. If clearance exceeds the allowable limit, the bushing is replaced to avoid damage to the shaft.

A good maintenance program includes visual inspections to detect grease leaks, corrosion or seal damage. It is also advisable to record operating hours and operating conditions to anticipate failures and plan replacements without unexpected downtime.

One of the most frequent problems is excessive heating, caused by excess grease, misalignment or excessive load. The solution involves correcting lubrication, aligning the shaft precisely or reviewing the bearing sizing.

The entry of contaminants (dust, water) shortens bearing life. To avoid this, appropriate seals should be used and, in very aggressive environments, consider housings with special seals or grease purge systems.

Premature wear of the housing in cast iron housings can be due to vibrations or incorrect fit. In those cases, it can be repaired with bushings or replace the complete housing. It is always advisable to consult a specialist to choose the best alternative.
