The shaft diameter is the starting point: housings and bearings are designated by the inner diameter in millimeters or inches. For example, a B22600 housing corresponds to a shaft of a certain standard size. Then verify the dynamic and static load capacity shown in the catalog, and compare it with the actual loads of the application. If there are combined loads or moments, you may need a bearing with greater capacity or a more robust housing.

Also consider the fixing type: Y bearings are usually fixed with set screws or an eccentric collar, while split housings use adapter sleeves or direct fit. Incorrect mounting is one of the main causes of premature failure. For split housings, make sure the base is well seated and leveled. The housing is disassembled, the bearing is placed on the shaft and then the cap is closed. It is essential that the bearing is well aligned with the shaft and that the fixing screws are tightened to the recommended torque.

In the case of Y bearings with housing, the insert is fixed to the shaft by means of set screws or eccentric collar. Turn the collar in the direction of shaft rotation to lock it, and then tighten the set screws. Do not hit the bearing directly: use a tube or tool that supports only on the ring being mounted.

For spherical and cylindrical roller bearings, mounting may require induction heating or oil bath if the fit is interference. Check the radial clearance after mounting and verify that the shaft rotates freely. Always clean the shaft and housing before installing, and use adequate lubricant.

Preventive maintenance is key to extending the service life of Link-Belt bearings. Periodically check the working temperature, noise and vibration. An increase in temperature or abnormal noise can indicate lack of lubrication, overload or misalignment.
